The Memphis Bonsai Society will host a weekend workshop with Bonsai Master Kather Shaner.
The workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday March 1 & 2, 2008. The fee will be $50 per day for members. Non-members are encouraged to attend for the rate of $130 for the weekend. If desired, the additional $30 will be applied to pay-in-full any new member's dues for the entire year.
Starting her career in bonsai in 1983, Kathy Shaner has become
internationally known and recognized for her excellence in the art of
bonsai. After becoming a member of ten bonsai clubs and studying under
several of California's most respected instructors, she was granted an
apprenticeship in Japan. There she worked for Yasuo Mitsuya, highly
regarded Master of Gendai (contemporary form) bonsai training. She was
the first non-Japanese citizen to be certified by the Nippon Bonsai
Kyodo Kumaii, the professional bonsai grower's branch of the Nippon
Bonsai Association of Japan.
Shaner conducts seminars and workshops, lectures, and designs
and maintains private collections. She uses her knowledge and ability
to find the "soul of the tree" to teach her students in a clear
understandable manner. Last year Kathy was named curator of the Golden State Bonsai Federation
Collection - North and resident bonsai master at the new El Dorado
Bonsai School in Placerville, California.
This is an excellent opportunity to take part in a hands-on workshop under the tutelage of one of the country's most renown bonsai experts.
The workshop will be held at the Goldsmith Center at the beautiful Memphis Botanic Garden. Please contact us for more details .
