Twelve members of the Memphis Bonsai Society met with Kathy Shaner for our Workshop Weekend. And what a weekend it was. It all began at 9 AM on Saturday, 21 March and ended at 5 PM that day. The next day, Sunday, started at 8 AM and ended at 5 PM. Members were tired after the long hours but Kathy was just as perky as when she started. She was eager to share what she knew about Bonsai with the members and they sucked it in. Trees were evaluated and adjustments, which in some cases called for severe measures, were used to improve and create bonsai that were on their way to becoming good and great trees in the years to come. One must be patient and caring for their little charges.
How we appreciate Kathy as a Bonsai Master and also as one great person, an extremel patient nperson to put up with us who are so non-knowledgeable. We hope this this program will continue in the years to come and Kathy will keep enlightening us. A separate thanks to Jim and Clark, out-of-state- members, for the goodies they brought; Dale for the coffee and sweets; Nancy for the chips and dips; and Cecile for the fruit, chips, and homemade chocolate cookies. We all ate too much and probably drank too much good coffee. A special thanks, once again to Darryl, who always brings extra tools, pots, soil preparations, tubs and other essentials that make the program complete. If you failed to bring it, Darryl probably had a replacement for you to use. And to Ellie for arranging all things with Kathy so that we had such a successful and meaningful weekend. |
